If I were recommending a NAS to a friend who wasn’t as ideologically driven, I’d suggest Synology. ZFS 🔗︎. ZFS is cool, but I haven’t found a need for most of its features beyond RAID.

I tried FreeNAS, and, in the process for looking for replacements I discovered ZFS, and I think (I think...) I would want that. I managed to get FreeNAS to work (the system itself is easily installed, yet getting the packages to work is a disaster).
